ON WHAT BASIS DO WE ELECT OUR REPRESENTATIVES

Have we given a thought, on what basis do we elect our leaders, MPs, MLAs.

 Some of us are religious follower of a party say Congress, BJP,JD, Akali Dal etc. So we do not bother much about who is the representative. Whether he has a criminal case pending against him, is he educated, is he of good character, Will his bank balance match with his previous service/ job, can he read/ write ( and in some case unlock their mobile phones ). We blindly go to the voting booth and like a loyal party follower we cast our vote. 

Some of us do not know whom to vote, they either get an allowance called ' election allowance ' every 5 years to vote for a party (by the respective party). They are the poor chaps who struggle a lot even to arrange a days meal to their families. They Unlike Raj Babbar cannot survive of a 12 Rs meal every day. So they are ignorant about who's who. We cannot explain them the greater political scenario of the county ( because they would not understand ). 

Some of us, the so called think tanks of the society vote for ideology. Be it Secularism, socialism or some other 'ism'. 

So what makes our representative who they are? Are they experts in any field ? ( scams are excluded for obvious reasons ). Say for example, Agriculture minister - does he know all the woes of farmers from different regions of india, Does he has a Master degree from any agriculture University? If no, what makes him a choice for that portfolio ? If he does not know about the field in which he is a minister what contibution can he make. Forget all this, if an under qualified person is holding a particular portfolio, wont a well educated in that particular field perform better that the latter ? There are no experts in our country's politics. Hence all of them have a committee of experts. If committee of experts give all their opinion to the minister and minister just reads them out, what makes him special, what is his contribution in policy making, why should we elect him but not a well qualified person in the relevant field ? Do we think all this while voting or do we resort to our own classic reasons for voting.

WHAT DO WE REALLY WANT??

" What do we really want in life? "

This is a very simple question for which the answer is not so simple. Most of the people do not know what they really want or desire.According to me most of the complications will finally come to this fundamental question.

What do you really want?

"I want to make more money", "I need power"," i want new car", " I want a bungalow", "I want a descent job" - some general desires. Let us take this example of money.

" Why do you need more money?" -
 Because then i can buy what ever i want. I can eat whatever i want.
"and then what?"-
Make more money and be happy.

" how do you make more money? -by working harder, by sacrificing your precious time which you cannot give to your family and friends. By working harder on things that you don't like often , And what do you do with that money? You continue living doing things which you don't like in order to make money by doing things you don't like doing.( you make money by doing what you don't like in order to go on a living which is about go on doing what you don't like doing.) At the end of the story everyone regrets of wasting a lifetime doing things that he or she did not like.Having desires of materialistic world is not going to help us. How many times you wanted to buy a watch, laptop, mobile so desperately, did you had the same anxiousness  after a week of receipt of those things. NO! I am sure you didn't. It dies down. I need a new car, bungalow - these desires will subside with time. Even after having all these things the question " what i really want " will still be in your mind. Is it so difficult to decide what do you need in life? not at all. It all depends on the perception- how he is viewing his life. Why people find it so difficult to answer this question is that they have different desires at different times of their lives and often all these desires are driven by worldly pleasures." My neighbour bought a BMW, I will also buy a BMW or a better one" is the tendency of some people. But my question is do really need a BMW?"My cousins are studying engineering, they will make more money when they get the job, So even i will study engineering or medical" - Are you interested in engineering or medical? "My friends are studying in abroad, They will get a job there and make more money, Even i will go abroad". Do you really want to go abroad?Or just because you don't want to be left behind in this race for money, you want to go for it( even if you don't like doing it) But why? Why get a car because neighbour has got new one? It is because Human cannot be satisfied with what he has. He wants to be on the top of everything. He cannot tolerate if someone is above him. Isn't it. He constantly compares himself with other and assesses what he lacks with respect to others. Don't do something just because someone else is doing it. That shows that you are comparing each aspect of your life with others. Don't compare yourself with others. Everyone is unique and they have different qualities. Instead of comparing yourself with others and feeling jealous compare with your past and your present. Do something if you want to do it, if you are passionate about doing it.Read this wonderful article

 Just forget all these and think - there was no money when human evolved, in the early stages, not till recently when the barter system was replaced by currency system. So comparatively man has spent more time in the barter system age. Wasn't he happy then ( we dont know that ). It is possible when we know where to draw the line, when we realize our limitations. When we accept ' we dont have to buy a BMW because the neighbor has it'. But still why we don't realize? Because we still live in materialistic world which offers temporary happiness when you possess something. We have an EGO that wants to be superior to others. Of course the misconception is that money gives superiority. That is absolute stupidity.

Now back to the question. What do you really want in life?

Some really intelligent people tell they want to be happy, they want to be in peace. This also seems funny. Because here they are very ambitious of how their life should be. That can be achieved by so many ways. So again you are confused that what you can do so that you can happy. I say do what you like, in fact all the things you like. But who will earn money, feed the children if we keep on doing things we like? such as painting, music, arts, traveling, pottery, poetry, story writing etc which doesn't fetch serious money. But let me tell you, will you be happy having things ( materialistic)or doing things which you don't like?Will it give you eternal happiness? Human will be really confused what he wants if he digs too much into what he really wants. Surely he will have no answer unless he digs into depths to find the answer.

As long as you are doing what you like, it does not matter what it is. you don't get bored. Your life will be interesting, full of events because you will be passionate about it. Forget the money. It was never a part of human culture. His main aim was to live,Not to care much about many other things. You may say he was uneducated, he was uncivilized. But my question is how do you define education and civilization? Is having a degree, speaking English, knowing rocket science a education? You may know about theory of relativity, but what use it is to you ?( Unless you really wanted to learn theory of relativity !) Is wearing clothes, walking, talking and other decency civilization?( then what about this ). Early man was not a fool. He knew what he wanted. The so called intelligent man is ruining everything which has been preserved since ages. Old man was active, He used to go for hunting, he had physical exercise with his lifestyle( he never went to gym, In fact no other animal goes to the GYM). He never used to sit infront of the his stone Computer for hours. These are just indications to start thinking that there is something wrong with us.
We are all into the habit of following the mass, following the easy path . Finally when you are about to kick the bucket you will not think about what you did, you will think about those things you did not do. So what do you really want.?


You might wonder if i know what i want. Even i am in the process of digging deeper to find the answer. But let me tell you what your approach should be rather what my approach is. What you want to do should give you those things/jobs/activities that you are passionate about; Those things which will give some meaning to your life; Those things which will help your family, friends and the society; Those things by doing which you wont regret that you did it; Those things which give you peace of mind and the satisfaction. those things which will make your life eventful. Here money shouldn't be included, but in this modern world it becomes mandatory to earn.  By doing those things you will enjoy life. You will start living your life, Until then your are merely existing. Live, don't exist!

RULE 49-O OF ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA / ARTICLE 17 A

Many of us do not know that we can choose not to vote under the law. Such a provision is available in the constitution as well as the rule book of election commission of India. Constitution makers way back in 1950 knew such a sitution may arise where the public will not wish to vote any candidates in their constituency. Reasons may be 'n' in No. He might be a corrupt politician, he is alleged to have raped some one [1], or they might have watched a "atrocity against Indian women " video in the assembly [2], or they might have been working hard at night for the progress of the country so that they can sleep in parliament [[3], reasons will go on like this. So the voters will be waiting for their turn to teach them a lesson in next 5 years when the election arrives. So they may choose to vote to another candidate. Eventually another candidate also turns out be 1,2,3. So the voter will be dejected.

The rule 49-o states that the "49-O. Elector deciding not to vote.-If an elector, after his electoral roll number has been duly entered in the register of voters in Form-17A and has put his signature or thumb impression thereon as required under sub-rule (1) of rule 49L, decided not to record his vote, a remark to this effect shall be made against the said entry in Form 17A by the presiding officer and the signature or thumb impression of the elector shall be obtained against such remark."

That means he is telling under the law that he does not wish to vote to any candidate because he thinks they are all unfit. But If he does not vote, someone might fraud his vote. To prevent it he will "cast" his vote but to "no one".

 Currently EVM does not have this option. If some one wants to make use of rule 49-O, then he has to contact the polling officer and give it on a paper. This violates the "secrecy of Voting", for the same reason why EC banned opinion polls in 2009. Now there is a new proposal coming which requires a print button included in the EVM ( just like in ATM ). Since politicians are aware of the seriousness of the rule 49-O, none of them are pushing for it.

A hoax has been circulating which claims that if the '49-O' votes more than those of the winning candidate, then that poll will be canceled and will have to be re-polled. Furthermore, it claims that the contestants will be banned and they cannot contest the re-polling for their lifetime. This is false and has no basis whatsoever. Refer.

But hope this hoax becomes a reality and the Rule 49-O is implemented to make India a perfect democracy, Where common man is the rules not his representatives.

WHY DO WE, INDIANS GO TO ABROAD FOR STUDIES?????

When i was in last year of my engineering so many of my batch mates were busy in preparing for GREat journey abroad and their TOE Fell in that attempt. That time i didn't give too much damn to these things, but recently when one of my friends had raised this issue in a public forum, all the thoughts i had stored since engineering came to light.

There can be so many reasons as to why we go abroad to study. Many say quality of edification in the western countries is good. They have merit based seat selection, opportunities are more, exposures are more,  we will get good job blah blah blah...finally the point comes, you can make more money. My question, what will do with more money? buy more stuffs, Invest , become rich, buy a foreign car and then what? For me it is not a point of patriotism that you have to study here only but my question is why not here. Every tom dick and harry who didn't had the credibility and competence here is doing some 'Master in Bullshit' course there. No offense fellas- I am not generalizing. I am just giving my view point here.

people go to western countries for studies - because:

• They have money to go there but not to toil their ass and secure seat here in one of the premier institution/ University.
• Their Parents have ASSets on which they can take Loan ( I have a very close friend of mine who is very brilliant, sad part is he doesn't have anything to take loan on. And he is interested to go abroad for research purposes - those facilities which are not here. Genuine reason)
• Masti - which they cannot do here. after all there it is a free society ;)
• Good Job and More money - I cannot comment on this, every one will have their own problems.
• To settle there, which they think is free from 'corruption+caste based reservation ....+ n' etc etc which are prevailing here.( then don't come here to find your bride/ groom - ' hey careful you may become corrupted')
• So that they can put up a show in front of their relatives as 'foreign returned'
• all of the above ;)

Yeah it is easy to comment on those things. Yes- the caste based reservation will not allow most of us to get a decent seat in an university, and those who have struggled can tell this better. There are very less seats in India in premier universities like IISC, IIT, NIT et al. My question is if you can spare 25 Lakh(average) to go and study abroad why can't you do it here? You can say Indian system is corrupted. 'Er... Excuse me - you are also part of this country. You have also contributed to corruption equally. How many times have you bribed the traffic havaldar to let you go'( This is altogether a different Topic which i will address later). I like this dialogue from RDB- " Koi des perfect Nahi hotha, Use Perfect banana Padtha hein". You can get quality of education you deserve here itself. For more knowledge, more facilities in research oriented subjects which are not "yet" available here, for those subjects& specialization which are not "yet" offered here - you may choose to go abroad in these genuine cases. No one prevents you from going. But unless it is absolutely required like the above genuine cases is there a point to go there? I dont know whether i have been offensive or needle sharp - I don't care. I have written what i felt that's all. After all we have freedom of speech :)[ref]
